Office against Age Discrimination

The Bureau against Age Discrimination operates the most extensive German-language archive on the subject of age discrimination . It is based on the experience, knowledge and letters that were collected from 1999 to 2007 in the Office against Age Discrimination eV. In 2001 the Office against Age Discrimination held the first nationwide complaint day on the subject of age discrimination. 1598 telephone complaints received on November 21st were evaluated according to gender, age and the social area of ​​the complaint. In 2002 the results were published with financial support from the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth, as well as the Ökofonds NRW under the title Age and Discrimination. The head is the journalist Hanne Schweitzer.

The goals set by the association have been achieved through the General Equal Treatment Act . Therefore, the general meeting in 2007 decided to dissolve the association.

The office is committed to the following goals:

  • Solidarity between the generations
  • Equal participation of all age groups in political, economic, social and cultural life
  • Extension of Article 3 of the Basic Law to include the term "age"
  • Prohibition of age discrimination in access to goods and services
  • Prohibition of structural, systemic discrimination, for example in health care, in state and private pension systems, in care, in public spaces, in local public transport.
  • Flexible retirement age
  • Promotion of positive images of age and new age roles
  • No obligation to volunteer

Honorary award "The Golden Fold"

The Golden Fold is an honorary award given every two years by the office since 2000. The award goes to projects, activities, reports or advertisements that promote or convey a cliché-free image of old age.
