The BBÖ VT 31 was a combustion engine - railcar of the Federal Railways Austria (BBÖ).
Technical data and history
The railcar was created through a conversion from a two-axle passenger car of the 3rd carriage class . The railcar was used in the Waldviertel . The railcar came to the Deutsche Reichsbahn in 1938 and was designated there as the 722 with a second occupation. After being converted to LPG operation, the railcar was in operation until 1945. After that he stayed with ČSD and was retired at an unknown date.
Vehicle body
The donor trolley has undergone extensive changes in the vehicle structure. The two driver's cabs, which formed the access to the passenger compartments, were created by extending and cladding the two entry areas. The passenger compartments had many small side windows with top-hung skylight windows . The suspension of the car body on the running gear was realized with leaf springs. The car was heated by the cooling water circuit of the drive motors.
The entire machine system was stored in its own machine support frame and suspended from the underframe of the car via four points. It consisted of two four-cylinder , four-stroke gasoline engines that drove an axle of the railcar via a single-disc dry clutch and a three-speed gearbox. Depending on the performance requirements, one or two motors could be used. The clutch was operated via a pedal. The manual transmission was shifted via a chain transmission and enabled speeds of 10/20/50 km / h in the individual gears. The engine was cooled by water. A cooling system was arranged under the driver's cabs of the car.
