The BBC Bergen class is initially eight multipurpose vessels comprehensive ship class of Leer shipping company Briese shipping , where the ships in the long term to the daughter company BBC Chartering have been chartered.

The ships have been built by various Chinese shipyards since January 2011 , and the first three ships in the series, the BBC Bergen , BBC Bangkok and BBC Belem , have been delivered to date (April 2012) . The remaining five ships should also be delivered by the end of 2012.

The almost 130 m long multi-purpose freighters have a maximum draft of 7.0 m and a load capacity of 8,000 dwt . The ships are equipped with two 80 t ( SWL ) load-bearing cranes from the manufacturer NMF and have a reinforced tank cover that can be loaded with up to 20 t / m². With a radius of up to 30 m from the center of the crane, the SWL is 30 t each.

Due to their relatively shallow draft and their on-board cranes, the ships of the BBC Bergen class can also call at relatively small ports without the corresponding superstructure.

The cargo space of these ships has a capacity of 11,500 m³, the deck loading area is 1,175 m². A maximum of 455 standard containers can be accommodated on the ships .

This type of ship is powered by a 3,000 kW six-cylinder diesel engine from MaK . At the maximum speed of 14 kn that is achieved, around 14.5 t of HFO are consumed.
