The BBC's Europe class is a nine multipurpose heavy comprehensive, resulting between 2003 and 2009 ship class . The type ship was BBC Europe in 2004 , followed by BBC Austria in 2009 . The ships belong to the Briese shipping company in Leer and have been chartered out to the subsidiary BBC Chartering on a long-term basis .
The ships are identical. They have a load capacity of around 7,700 dwt . The ships are equipped with two powerful cranes, each 250 t SWL ( SafeWorkingLoad ), (German: Safe Lifting Weight) from NMF and can carry a load of 500 t in tandem operation. In addition, the 1,986 m² loading area can be loaded with up to 20 t / m². The cargo space of the ships is 11,021 m³. The ships have an intermediate deck .
Thanks to the 6,300 kW marine diesel engine from MaK , the maximum speed of this type of ship is around 16.5 kn. In addition, 600 TEU , including 60 refrigerated containers , can be loaded. the consumption is around 25 t HFO per day at sea. The ships were classified by Germanischer Lloyd .
The ships are equipped with stability pontoons to ensure the necessary stability for the transfer of heavy cargo.

Most of the ships sail under the flag of Antigua & Barbuda : BBC Houston carries the flag of the USA and BBC Switzerland carries the German flag. BBC Germany and BBC Scandinavia are now flying the Gibraltar flag. The BBC Houston carried the flags of Antigua & Barbuda and Germany in front of the American flag - at that time it was called BBC Australia .
