BBCH code

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The BBCH code (or: the BBCH scale ) provides information about the morphological development stage of a plant . The acronym officially stands for the B iological Federal Institute of Agriculture and Forestry , B undessortenamt and CH emic industry. In 1989 a new BBCH code was presented in a joint effort between BASF, Bayer AG, Ciba Geigy AG and Hoechst AG.

The BBCH scale is used in scientific communication to answer questions about plant development and the optimal or recommended timing of fertilization and plant protection measures in crop cultivation . The scale is divided into ten “macro stages”, each of which is differentiated into even smaller “micro stages”. There are BBCH scales for cereals and many other crops ( beans , potatoes , vegetables , pome and stone fruits , berries and many others). The abbreviation BBCH can also stand for the four companies that originally promoted its development.

When the apple blossoms, the first blossom ("royal blossom") of the flower cluster is open, this corresponds to the BBCH code 60 or in short: "BBCH 60"
