As pome fruit as are fruit producing species of the subtribe maloideae (Pyrinae) in the family of the rose family called (Rosaceae). These are among others:

The fruit is known as apple fruit and, from a botanical point of view, is an agglomerate fruit . As the carpels (and later fruits) grow around the tall flower base, a so-called dummy fruit is formed . Inside are the actual follicles (5 in number) with the seeds (kernels). The fruits of the pome are one of the most popular foods and can be preserved in almost unchanged quality for months through appropriate storage procedures (see Pome Fruit Storage ). In contrast to the woody stone fruit kernels, the soft seed kernels of the rose family do not have a tightly enclosing and largely woody capsule, but a ram-like, elastic seed casing in which they are located.
