BB Chung King & The Buddaheads

BB Chung King & The Buddaheads was an American blues rock band from Los Angeles founded in the early 1990s around the guitarist, songwriter and singer BB Chung King (real name Alan Mirikitani; * March 1, 1955, † July 22, 2015) whose style she describes as a mixture of roots rock and “ blues base ”.

history

When their first album Blues Had A Baby was released in 1994, the band could already look back on references to Stevie Ray Vaughan , Jimi Hendrix , Johnny Winter , Cream , ZZ Top as well as Warren Haynes and similar greats. In Europe up to then rather unknown, even in the USA it seemed to be quieter around the band. Two live albums called Live In Japan and Play Hard were only released in Japan under the Kiagan Records label.

The focus of BB Chung King in the early years was not least on the production of pieces of music for movies. In addition, he was always involved with other artists, such as Lonnie Brooks , Tinsley Ellis , Ruth Brown or Bettye LaVette , by writing, recording and producing songs for them.

In particular through the release of the albums Go For Broke (2000), Mumbo Jumbo (2003) and Howlin 'At The Moon (2004), the group also became known in Europe. After the last-mentioned album, a change of members began at the core of the band. On the 2002 released album Real and Howlin 'At The Moon the "Buddaheads" existed side by BB Chung King and several guest musicians from bassist Boyd Laffan and drummer Joe Pafume, 2006, in which marketed in self-distributed album Raw bassist Johnny Griparic and the Drummer Lee Spath used.

Alan Mirikitani died on July 22, 2015 at the age of 60.

Band name

The name of the band in no way suggests a specific religious background, such as Buddhism . Mirikitani only states on his Facebook page that he is interested in the Bible .
