The fund had around 120,000 members. It had its headquarters in Rheinfelden (Baden) and another office in Albbruck .

history

The BKK Hochrhein-Wiesental was created on January 1st, 1996 as a merger of the company health insurance funds of the traditional industrial companies " Aluminum Rheinfelden " (factory for aluminum alloys), " Zell-Schönau AG " from Zell im Wiesental (spinning and weaving mill; insolvent), " Brennet AG ”(textile factory from Wehr (Baden) ) and“ Albbruck paper factory ”( Myllykoski Corporation ).

In January 2007, the cash register hit the headlines when it became known that a former team leader in financial accounting at BKK Hochrhein-Wiesental had managed to transfer over 1 million euros from BKK accounts to his private account for five years up to the summer of 2006 that the internal control authorities noticed this. The BKK only became aware of the fact that the BKK's house bank pointed out that large amounts of money had been posted from the BKK account to the employee's account. The board of directors of the BKK stated that they had placed a great deal of trust in the employees, as this was the only way that the fund's rapid growth had been possible in recent years. The confessing employee was sentenced to three years and three months' imprisonment in January 2007, the verdict is final. In the grounds of the judgment, the court emphasized that the lack of control by the BKK made it very easy for the employee.

As a result of this process, the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs initiated a financial audit by the examination office for social insurance at the BKK. As it became known in June 2007, it emerged from this that the health insurance company apparently made incorrect bookings in the years 2000 to 2006 in its favor and at the expense of the risk structure compensation and long-term care insurance in the amount of - according to the current state of investigation - a total of around 60 million euros. Because of the shortfall that actually results from this, the continued existence of BKK Hochrhein-Wiesental is massively endangered. The board of directors and the deputy board of directors of the BKK were given leave of absence with immediate effect, the BKK regional association now appoints a restructuring board and the " implausibilities in financial accounting" are examined by an external auditor. The ministry has now filed a criminal complaint against the BKK.

As a result of these events, the BKK Hochrhein-Wiesental merged on October 1, 2007 with the Ludwigsburg mhplus BKK . The 120 employees of the BKK Hochrhein-Wiesental will all be taken over.
