BMW Motorrad Days

The BMW Motorrad Days are a multi-day free biker festival organized by BMW-Motorrad in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and which has existed since 2001. In media reports, the event is sometimes referred to as the "undisputed summit of fans of the traditional Bavarian brand".

history

In 2001 BMW invited the users of its motorcycles to Seefeld in Tyrol for the first time in order to establish customer loyalty there on the first weekend in July. Around 6,500 bikers accepted the invitation to what was then known as the “bikers meeting”. A year later, the company moved to Garmisch-Partenkirchen to the event site below the local mountain and was renamed “BMW Motorrad Days”.

In the following years the number of participants rose to over 40,000 and in 2018 was 35,000.

Attendees

In addition to guests from Germany and the neighboring countries, participants from Israel, Dubai, Turkey, Cyprus, Russia and the USA were also there in 2010. At the 2018 edition, participants from 30 nations spoke, including, as non-European countries, Brazil, Canada, South Africa, Japan, the USA, China, South Korea, Thailand and India.

In addition to the visitors, there are also exhibitors from the fields of customizing , tuning and accessories . Over 80 companies took part in 2014, as in 2018.

Supporting program

The organizers endeavor to ensure continuity in the supporting program, as feedback from participants on changes has shown.

The basic aspects include live music, which in particular includes different types of rock (folk, swing, roots). Other elements that were repeatedly taken up included: a. Stunt shows, an enduro course and panorama tours

In 2013 the “Motodrom” was introduced, in which shows designed for spectacles were shown. In the same year, the "Classic Boxer Sprint" was held for the first time, in which two drivers competed against each other with old machines. Since there was no legal basis for races from the road traffic regulations, it was discontinued in 2014. The sprint was resumed in 2015. There was also a competition for the highest mileage, which was won in 2015 by a participant with an odometer reading of 419,261 km.

The events in 2018 included a. Program items with the actor and documentary filmmaker Hannes Jaenicke , the singer Wincent Weiss or the photographer and adventurer Michael Martin . There was a trial training session on electric bikes for children and a motorcycle corso with around 200 machines and a parade with 30 vintage cars for drivers.
