BOC (formerly also The BOC Group ) is a British industrial gases company that was taken over by its German competitor Linde for EUR 12 billion in 2006 . The BOC brand will continue to exist for Linde's British industrial gases business. However, it is now run from Guildford .

history

The company was founded as Brin's Oxygen Company Ltd. in January 1886, after the two brothers Arthur and León Quentin Brin started processing oxygen in 1880 . The most important donor was the stoneware manufacturer Henry Sharp. In 1887 the company was already producing 4,000 m 3 of oxygen.

The name was changed to British Oxygen Company in 1906, the official abbreviation to BOC in 1969. In 1975 the company was renamed BOC International Ltd. renamed.

In 2000, BOC built the world's largest nitrogen plant in Ciudad del Carmen in Campeche , Mexico.

Acquisitions

In the mid-1960s, BOC bought the important welding machine manufacturer Murex. This purchase included a specialty metals company that manufactured carbide and ferro alloys and refined metals.

In 1968, BOC bought Edwards High Vacuum. This purchase added vacuum pumps , electron beam welding , thin film coating and freeze drying to the BOC portfolio .

In 1978 BOC took over the American manufacturer Airco. 1982 BOC bought 43% of the shares in the Japanese industrial gases company OSK (Osaka Sanso Kogyo).
