The BREM-L ( Russian Бронированная ремонтно-эвакуационная машина Л [легкой] ; German: "An armored repair and recovery vehicle [easily]") is a Russian lighter armored recovery vehicles , which on the armored personnel -3 BMP is based, of the Russian armaments manufacturer Kurganmaschsawod since produced in the 1990s. It serves as a mobile workshop and has the task of repairing or towing broken armored vehicles of the types BTR , BMP and BMD .

Development history

Development of the BREM-L began in the late 1980s when it became apparent that with the introduction of the BMP-3, a more modern recovery vehicle was needed, ideally using the same chassis as the BMP-3. Production probably started in post-Soviet Russia in the 1990s. However, only a few BREM-L were adopted by the Russian armed forces. In the Export several dozen vehicles were, for example, about 85 units in the United Arab Emirates and a two-digit number for Venezuela .

technology

The amphibious BREM-L has two water jet propulsion units at the rear of the vehicle, with which speeds of a maximum of 9 km / h can be achieved in the water. In addition, the steering takes place through the same. The BREM-L can remain in the water for long periods of time, both with the engine switched on and with the engine switched off, while all on-board systems remain operational. According to the manufacturer, towing in the water should also be possible to a limited extent. Before a trip on the water, a surge board is unfolded, which provides additional buoyancy.

The BREM-L is powered by a water-cooled UTD-29 turbodiesel engine (four-stroke) with 500 HP (368 kW). The engine is located in the rear of the vehicle. The manual transmission has four forward and two reverse gears. This armored vehicle has hydropneumatic suspension that can be adjusted depending on the type of terrain to be crossed. The BREM-L has a similar off-road capability as the BMP-3. The recovery vehicle has a small tower for the vehicle commander. The Russian version is armed with a 7.62 mm PKTM machine gun for self-defense against ground and air targets. An ammunition supply of 1000 rounds is carried. In addition, the BREM-L has various smoke release cups .

Recovery technology

In addition to a hydraulic crane and a winch, the BREM-L has a clearing and support shield with which earth movements can be carried out on a smaller scale. The sign is 3,150 meters wide and can penetrate a maximum of 34 cm into the ground.

Hydraulic crane
  • Drive type: hydraulic and mechanical
  • Load capacity: 5 or 11 tons (when using a double chain hoist)
  • Maximum boom reach: 4,852 mm
Mechanical winch
  • Drive type: hydraulic
  • Maximum pulling force: 140–160 kN
  • Working rope length: 150 m
Electric welding machines

The welding machines carried are suitable for welding and cutting steel and aluminum alloys.

Loading area

There is a loading platform on the recovery vehicle in which a maximum of 1.7 tons of equipment and spare parts can be carried. In the case of intended water journeys, the maximum load is reduced to 300 kg.
