In 1950 two company sports clubs in Nordhausen celebrated promotion to the next higher league with their soccer teams. The BSG KWU / Deutsche Reichsbahn rose to the second-class GDR league and the BSG Nortag-Hanewacker Salza made it to the state class Thuringia (3rd division in the GDR football league system). This later played as BSG Motor Süd Nordhausen.

The sponsoring company of BSG Nortag-Hanewacker was the chewing tobacco factory of the same name in Nordhausen-Salza. In the national class, the Salzaers took eighth place in 1951 and tenth place in 1952. At the beginning of the 1951/52 season, the BSG was renamed Empor Nordhausen-Salza. When the GDR states were abolished in 1952 in favor of districts , the BSG Up came into the third-class district league in Erfurt . There she was also represented for two seasons, but had to relegate in 1954 as bottom of the table in the district class Erfurt.

In the 1954/55 season, BSG started a new carrier company from the metal industry under the new name BSG Motor Süd Nordhausen. As the ranking got worse and worse, she spent four seasons in the district class, which was only 4th division from 1955/56 after the introduction of the 2nd GDR League. In 1958, BSG Motor again finished last and was relegated to the district league. A return from the district level was no longer successful.
