The BSV Velbert 1948 eV ( B illard- S port- V erein Velbert) is a sports club from the North Rhine Velbert in Bergisch country . The club colors are blue and white. The first men's three-cushion team plays in the 1st Bundesliga and won the German Cup for the second time in 2009 after 2007 .

history

On April 1, 1947, the club was founded under the name "Velberter Billardklub (BK) Weiß-Rot-Weiß" in the "Café Körber" on Wallstrasse 22 in Velbert / Niederberg. The founding members were Reinhold Becker (1st chairman), Willi Gerdesmann, Wilhelm Hagenbeck, Wilhelm Körber, Wilhelm Ortmann, and Wilhelm Meyer.

From 1949 to 1960 Wilhelm Ortmann was the first chairman of the association. During this time, the club left the umbrella organization and joined the KKV Essen as a member in the 1960/61 season. Also in 1960, Wilhelm Ortmann's son Rolf took over his position, and it was he who gave the club its current name.

The 17-year-old Heinz Karrenberg took over the chairmanship in 1965 and held it until 1971. During this time, the club changed its venue twice. First to the restaurant "Hugo Großmann", then to the "Café Langensiepen". To prevent another change of the venue, it was decided in 1975 to move into their own clubhouse. This was made possible by Ms. Thea Jüngst, a member who provided the association with 20 rooms at Wallstrasse. After Rolf Ortmann took over the chairmanship again in 1975, he passed this position on to Heinz Karrenberg again in 1986.

Thea Jüngst now needed the space she had made available for her own company and the club considered building its own club house, which was implemented in 1994 and has remained the last and current venue to this day.

In total, the BSV Velbert has won 365 titles to date. The most successful player was Thomas Wildförster with 84 titles (67 individual and 17 team titles), followed by Arno Figge (23/15), Torsten Anders (23/10), Freddy Barlog (14/18) and Volker Simanowski (20/11) .

On December 12, 2012, the club announced that Eddy Merckx , world champion from 2006 and 2012, will play for the club in the first division from the 2013/14 season.

On January 9, 2014, the honorary president of the association, Rolf Ortmann, died at the age of 82. Ortmann has been a member since the association was founded and chairman since 1960.
