Bari Ye

Bari Ye ( Urdu بڑی يے baṛī yē ;ے, German capital Ye ) is the last letter of the expanded Arabic alphabet of Urdu . The same character is also used in the Shahmukhi script of Punjabi and Saraiki (asوڈي يے vaḍḍī yē ), in use in the Arabic alphabet of Kashmiri and in the Peshawar orthography of the Pashtun script . Bari Ye only exists at the end of a word; in other positions it is throughی replaced.

In the Arabic script of Urdu, Bari Ye stands for the vowels / ɛ /, / ɑɪ / and / eː / at the end of the word, in Latin transcriptions it is replaced by an e or ai . The pronunciation as / ɛ / or / ɑɪ / can be made clear by adding a Fatha (Urdu: Zabar ). Bari Ye can display an Ezafe and bear a Hamza .
