Baba Budan Giri (formerly Chandra Drona Parvatha) is a mountain range and at the same time the name of the second highest mountain in the Indian state of Karnataka , both of which are located in the Chikmagalur district.

etymology

The currently used name Baba Budan Giri is derived from an Islamic Sufi saint of the 16th century named Hazrat Dada Hayat Khalandar, who - increasingly since the beginning of the 21st century - has been venerated by Hindus and Muslims alike under the name Baba Budan . You go on pilgrimages to the shrine of Baba Budan and to three large caves, in which three so-called sadhus - Hindu mystics - are venerated who lived there and are also buried in the caves.

The former name Chandra Drona Parvatha means something like " waxing moon". The shape of the two mountains is reminiscent of a waxing moon.
