Babacar Touré (born November 14, 1985 in Kaolack ) is a Senegalese basketball player .

career

Touré played for Sibac Dakar in his home country Senegal and completed an apprenticeship as an accountant, which he continued in Switzerland in November 2007 after moving to the second division Colas Bernex Basket. In the National League B, the inside player quickly became an outstanding player, in 2010 he moved to the nearby first division club Lions de Genève and stayed there until 2013. In his last season in Geneva (2012/13) he won the Swiss championship with the team and carried on on average 9.7 points and 6.4 rebounds contributed to this success in 36 league appearances.

In August 2013 he was signed by Union Neuchâtel (also Nationalliga A ). In Neuchâtel Touré became one of the best players in the league. The basketball service eurobasket.com recognized him as Player of the Year in National League A in the 2015/16 season and as Center of the Year in 2014/15 and 2015/16; in the 2014/15 season also as the best defender in the league. In his last year in Neuchâtel (2015/16) he recorded an average of 18.3 points, 11.5 rebounds and 1.6 blocked throws per encounter.

In 2016 he moved to the second division club Vevey Riviera Basket . The Swiss broadcaster RTS described this transfer as a “small earthquake” in Swiss basketball. Touré justified this step with the plan to concentrate more on professional matters outside of basketball in the future. He had rejected offers from first division clubs and clubs outside Switzerland. In his year at Vevey Riviera Basket, he won the second division championship with the team and was named Player of the Year for the 2016/17 second division by eurobasket.com .

In the summer break of 2017, Touré returned to the National League A and accepted an offer from Friborg Olympic , from then on he played as a professional again. In the 2017/18 season he won the Swiss championship with the Freiburg team and was named Player of the Year in the National League A by eurobasket.com , having scored an average of 19.2 points per game, 11.7 rebounds and 1, 6 blocked throws as well as 18.3 points and 11.7 rebounds and 1.2 blocked throws per game in the championship round. With the team he also won the cup and the league cup in the 2017/18 season. In autumn 2018 he qualified with Freiburg for the group stage of the Basketball Champions League , which the RTS classified as a great success in Swiss basketball history. In the 2018/19 season he won the Swiss championship title and the cup competition with Freiburg. In November 2019 he tore a cruciate ligament, and in summer 2020 Touré and the Freiburg team separated.

National team

In August 2011 Touré took part with the Senegalese national team at the African Championship in Madagascar and finished fifth. In 2019 he was part of Senegal's squad for the World Cup in China.
