Babcock International Group is a multinational company based in London . It was founded in 1891 and was listed on the London Stock Exchange in the FTSE 100 share index (as of October 2014).
Babcock specializes in support services management of complex assets and infrastructure in security and business-critical environments. Although the company also has civil law contracts, it does its main business with public entities, notably the UK Department of Defense and Network Rail . The company has four operating divisions with overseas operations in Africa, North America and Australia. Measured in terms of sales in the defense business, Babcock ranks 41st of all defense companies ; it is the third largest in the UK (after BAE Systems and Rolls-Royce ).
Naming
Like Babcock Borsig and Deutsche Babcock , Babcock International goes back to Babcock and Wilcox and the American inventor George Babcock .
