Calibration requirement
Balances to measure the body weight in the practice of medicine for reasons of monitoring, diagnosis and treatment may in Germany after the calibration regulations put into service only, used or kept as they are calibrated. According to Appendix B of the Verification Ordinance, baby scales and mechanical birth weight scales have a verification period of four years.
Baby scales used by midwives, in pharmacies and for private use do not have to be calibrated.
