history

The Bach Choir Eisenach was founded in 1925 by the later Dresden Kreuzkantor Rudolf Mauersberger in order to establish regular Bach maintenance at the church in which Johann Sebastian Bach was baptized in 1685. After just five years, Rudolf Mauersberger was called to Dresden as Kreuzkantor, his brother Erhard Mauersberger became his brother Erhard Mauersberger in 1931 as cantor and director of the Bach choir and regional church music director in Eisenach . This led the choir until 1961, when he took over the office of Thomaskantor in Leipzig . The Bach Choir Eisenach was taken over by Herbert Peter in 1961 , in 1984 Ekkehard Knechtel took over the post of choirmaster and cantor after a short period of vacancy . He introduced the regular performance of Bach cantatas in church services. In December 2002 he handed over the direction of the Bach Choir to his successor Christian Stötzner .

Concert tours took the choir to West Germany and Switzerland before the Wall was built . In the USA they performed with the Metropolitan Orchestra of Minneapolis and in the Czech Republic with the Philharmonic Hradec Králové . Cantata services of the choir were broadcast several times on radio and television. The choir regularly takes part in the Thuringian Bach Weeks.

On November 15, 2015, the choir celebrated its 90th anniversary as part of an anniversary concert in Eisenach's Georgenkirche. Bach's Mass in B minor was performed together with soloists and accompanied by the Landeskapelle Eisenach .
