Herbert Peter (composer)
Herbert Peter (born March 11, 1926 in Weimar ; † April 11, 2010 ) was a German regional church music director and composer .
Life
Herbert Peter studied church music at the Liszt School of Music in Weimar from 1945 to 1949 . He took up his first position in 1949 as cantor and organist in Bad Berka . From 1950 to 1961 Herbert Peter was a lecturer for organ playing, composition and related subjects at the Thuringian Church Music School in Eisenach . In 1961 he was appointed director there, and he held this position until 1988.
1961–1991 he worked as regional church music director at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Thuringia. At the same time he was cantor at the Georgenkirche Eisenach from 1961 to 1984 and director of the Eisenach Bach choir. Since 1992 he has been living with his retired wife in Witzenhausen (North Hesse).

Compositions mainly for a cappella choir and with orchestra, for organ and for trombone choirs as well as orchestral and chamber music.
