Bachgauer Landwehr
The Bachgauer Landwehr (also Kurmainzer Landwehr der Cent Bachgau ) was a landwehr built in the 15th century at the latest in the Bachgau , whose moat and double wall can still be clearly seen in the Babenhausen forest or in the Großostheimer Unterwald and Stockstadt Oberhübnerwald.
The border system was mapped by Nikolaus Person : Novae Archiepiscopatus Moguntini Tabulae , Moguntiae around 1690, dedicated to the Archbishop of Mainz Anselm Franz von Ingelheim (1679–1695). As the historical map shows, the Landwehr led from the Gersprenz , the Kurmainzische Zent Bachgau partly delimiting from Hessian possessions, partly cutting through the Kurmainzer Bachgau and only including the areas of Stockstadt, Großostheim and Mosbach at Mömlingen to the Mümling . The former Kurmainzischen Bachgau places Radheim and Dorndiel lie west of the Landwehr shown on the map. The demarcations of these Kurmainzischen places were apparently sufficiently visible from the watch tower .
The Bachgauer Landwehr enabled customs revenue , especially at the time of the Frankfurt trade fair .
