The place is right on the border between Hesse and Lower Franconia in Bavaria . The southern neighboring village of Wald-Amorbach is already in the Hessian Odenwaldkreis in a valley basin at 221 m above sea level. NHN . It is located 30 km from Darmstadt and 10 km from Groß-Umstadt in an easterly direction in a northern branch of the Odenwald and is a typical cluster village in a valley.
history
A castle Dorndiel der Schelle von Amorbach is mentioned in the documents in 1390 and in remnants still in 1786 . It was probably on the grounds of the Dorndieler Hof , southwest of the actual town center. The Kommende Mosbach and the Höchst monastery owned land in Dorndiel in the Middle Ages, which belongs to the Bachgau and was the dominion of Kurmainzer. Temporarily for centering Umstadt properly, it came to the centering of the late Middle Ages Ostheim . The state border ran through Dorndiel between the Umstadt condominium and the Kurmainzer area of the Bachgau: the Dorndieler or Palatinate Hof located to the west was under the condominium, the larger Dorndiel settlement itself was Kurmainzer area. Therefore, the Mainz land law was considered a particular law here . The common law also applied, as far as the Mainz land law did not contain special regulations for a matter. This special rights retained its validity and throughout the 19th century during the affiliation of the area to the Grand Duchy of Hesse and was only on January 1, 1900 by the same across the whole German Reich current Civil Code replaced.
Around 1800 there was great poverty in Dorndiel, so that many citizens emigrated to America. In 1803, Dorndiel, as well as Radheim and Mosbach, became part of the Principality of Aschaffenburg as territory on the right bank of the Rhine of the Upper Archbishopric Mainz and with this came to the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt in 1810 , where the three places in the department of Aschaffenburg were on the administrative territory of the Districtmairie Obernburg. On June 26, 1814, Dorndiel, Mosbach and Radheim came to the Kingdom of Bavaria . With a treaty of January 29, 1817, the three places came to the Grand Duchy of Hesse by exchanging territory for Umpfenbach , Laudenbach , Windischbuchen and Reichartshausen .
With the Hessian rule, Dorndiel became part of the Hessian Office Umstadt until 1820, which from 1816 belonged to the Starkenburg Province of the Grand Duchy of Hesse . 1,821 were in the Grand Duchy district districts introduced and Dorndiel was the District Administrator District Dieburg allocated.
The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Dorndiel in 1829:
»Dorndiel (L. Bez. Dieburg) cath. Branch village; lies on a gentle hill, 3 St. from Dieburg and 1 3 ⁄ 4 St. from Umstadt. The place has a chapel, 38 houses and 276 inhabitants, which up from 2 Luth. are all catholic. Among these are 37 farmers and 9 artisans. In the district there is a significant break of red sandstones that are being hewn. - The village used to belong to the Oberhof Umstadt, but later it came to that of Ostheim. The Coming Moßbach had a yard here. In 1817 the town of Baiern was exchanged for Hesse. "
In 1832 the units were enlarged one more time and circles were created. This brought Dorndiel into the Dieburg district . The provinces, the counties and the administrative districts of the Grand Duchy were abolished on July 31, 1848 and replaced by administrative districts, but this was reversed on May 12, 1852. This Dorndiel belonged from 1848 to 1852 for the administrative district Dieburg before returning to the circle Dieburg was responsible for the overall administration. This was a district of the Grand Duchy of Hesse until November 1, 1938 and of the People's State of Hesse after the First World War . The district of Dieburg emerged from it in the course of administrative reforms in 1938 . In the course of the regional reform in Hesse in 1977 the district of Dieburg was merged with the district of Darmstadt and forms today's district of Darmstadt-Dieburg.
It is known from the Dorndiel mountain book of the 20th century that there must have been an iron ore mine called Margareta . The mining rights expired in 1989.
Territorial reform
Until the amalgamation by state law, in the course of the regional reform in Hesse , of Dorndiel with Groß-Umstadt and several other communities on January 1, 1977, Dorndiel was an independent community. Since then it has been the smallest district of Groß-Umstadt that is furthest away from the city center . For the core city of Groß-Umstadt and the districts of Dorndiel, Heubach, Kleestadt, Klein-Umstadt, Raibach, Richen, Semd and Wiebelsbach, local districts with local advisory councils and local heads were established in accordance with the Hessian municipal code.
