Raibach is a small village with nearly 900 inhabitants and a district of Groß-Umstadt in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district in southern Hesse .
Geographical location
The district of Raibach is bounded in the north and east by the Groß-Umstadt district of Klein-Umstadt , to the south and west by the district of the core town of Groß-Umstadt . Not far east of Raibach is the next Umstadt district, Dorndiel . The place is at the end of a valley of the same name, which is traversed by a stream. The village is built on the southern slope and has also been expanded there. It is first mentioned as a wine village in the 17th century . The village church with a portico built from local sandstones is clearly visible in the center .
history
Old field and waterway names indicate that this valley in the front Odenwald was already settled in the old Germanic times. Raibach was first mentioned in a document before 1392 in a goods receipt list. In the Middle Ages the place was owned by the Electorate of the Palatinate . The street village of Raibach was mentioned in historical documents as Rippach (1392), Rayppach (1616) and Pfalzraibach (1892) and had belonged to Hesse since 1802 together with the Umstadt district .
The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Raibach in 1829:
»Raibach (L. Bez. Dieburg) Lutheran and Reformed Filialdorf; also Pfalzraibach; is 2 St. from Dieburg, 3 ⁄ 4 St. from Umstadt, has 91 houses and 602 inhabitants, who up to 24 Cath., 31 Reform. and 53 Jews are Lutheran. Among these are 27 farmers, 36 artisans and 46 day laborers. The church is communal. The place has 1 grinding mill and quarries of good red sandstones that are hewn. - The Grosch location of Dieburg that Wambolde of Umstadt, and of Reibeld were of Churpfalz, each with 1 / 3 belehnt this village. They were also entitled to bailiwick law. The place was shared between Hesse and Palatinate, and in 1802 the whole thing came to Hesse.
Until then independent municipality Raibach on 1 April 1972 at the course of municipal reform in Hesse Gross-Umstadt incorporated . For the core city of Groß-Umstadt and the districts of Dorndiel, Heubach, Kleestadt, Klein-Umstadt, Raibach, Richen, Semd and Wiebelsbach, local districts with local advisory councils and local heads were established in accordance with the Hessian municipal code. The boundaries of the local districts follow the municipal boundaries of December 30, 1971.
