Semd is a district of Groß-Umstadt in the southern Hessian district of Darmstadt-Dieburg on the northern edge of the Odenwald .

history

The first documentary evidence dates from around 1312. Initially named Semede or Semme , later Sem (1544), or Sembt (1711). Semd was jointly owned by the Electoral Palatinate and the Landgraviate of Hesse . 1576 both hold the high super-glory and righteousness . In Semd, the nobility and the church have property; so the Counts of Hanau , the Fulda monastery , the von Frankenstein , the von Wasen , the Ulner von Dieburg , the Gayling von Altheim , the von Karben , the von Rodenstein , the von Groschlag , the taverns von Erbach , the von Düdelsheim , the von Bleichenbach and the goose from Otzberg .

»Semd (L. Bez. Dieburg) Lutheran and Reformed Filialdorf; is 1 hour from Dieburg and 34 hours from Umstadt. The place has 186 houses and 1146 inhabitants, who are Lutheran except for 127 Reform., 19 Cath. And 4 Jews; among these are 82 farmers, 53 artisans and 80 day laborers. The church is communal and was built in the 15th century. There are 3 grinding mills and a very strong poppy seed cultivation. - Here the Counts of Katzenellenbogen owned a so-called Greven Court, which came to Hesse and originated from the times to which Katzenellenbogen was entitled in the district of Umstadt. The place was shared with the Palatinate, and in 1802 the Palatinate share came to Hesse. "

Territorial reform

As part of the regional reform in Hesse , Semd and Klein -zimmer tried to be incorporated into Dieburg in 1972, but the city of Dieburg refused. 1 January 1977. The coat of arms was designed by the heraldist Heinz Ritt and approved by the Hessian Ministry of the Interior on September 2, 1963 .

It is based on an old court seal of the place from 1713 and thus refers to the local court.

Culture and sights

There has been a bench in the Semder corridor since March 2004 . It is 31.33 m long; the seat and the back are each made from a single piece of Douglas fir . Locals in particular consider this original piece to be the "longest bench in the world".

The Taubensemd nature reserve of Habitzheim, Semd and Groß-Umstadt is partly within the boundaries of Semd. The species-rich protected area includes wet meadows , reed beds , open and sometimes temporary water areas and dry rains .

The natural monument Gambseiche on Semder district fell victim to a lightning strike in June 2019 and had to be felled. Your lying trunk is still protected as a natural monument.

Almost twenty clubs, a sports and culture hall and a lively cultural life, which is reflected in street festivals and many other cultural events, can boast of the almost 2000 inhabitants.

The federal highway entrance of the B26 towards Darmstadt and Frankfurt am Main is only two kilometers away. Groß-Umstadt and Dieburg as small-town hubs of the region are only 5 minutes away by car. To Frankfurt Airport can be reached in 40 minutes (25 minutes during off-peak hours). An express bus connection as well as train stations in Dieburg (6 km) and Groß-Umstadt (4 km) complete the transport connection.
