The Taubensemd of Habitzheim, Semd and Groß-Umstadt is a nature reserve in the districts of Habitzheim , Semd and Groß-Umstadt in southern Hesse .

The pigeon shirt was placed under nature protection on December 14, 1976 and expanded by ordinance of June 3, 1992. The reason for protection is the preservation of the grassland floodplains of the Taubensemd with grassland communities in wet to dry locations, water areas and loess rains .

location

The nature reserve is located south of Semd and northeast of Habitzheim within the Reinheimer Hügelland natural area . The brook Taubensemd (also called Taubensemme) flows through a meandering loosening valley for about 1.95 kilometers, forming small ponds that are surrounded by forest communities and wet meadows.

history

In the early 1970s, the Bachaue threatened to disappear from the north under a rubbish dump. To secure the last near-natural areas, the Semd bird protection group leased two hectares of the remaining biotope in order to limit the extent of the dump. Together with DBV ( German Association for Bird Protection ) and HGON ( Hessian Society for Ornithology and Nature Conservation ), this area was developed close to nature and various ponds and pools were created. Before it was designated a nature reserve in 1976, the now closed garbage dump had also been partially recultivated. Initially, the nature reserve only covered an area of 7 hectares. By ordinance of June 3, 1992, the protected area was expanded to 32.23 hectares to the south.

Habitats and species

The nature reserve includes species-rich wet meadows , reeds and reeds , open and sometimes temporary water areas and dry rains. These are habitats for endangered and threatened animal and plant species. The maintenance goals set were to extend the use of meadows, to convert fallow land and arable land into hay meadows and to renature the stream. In addition, stands of hybrid poplars were to be converted to deciduous forest suitable for the location.

The protected area is very species-rich. Going with the flow thrive various banks plants ( Teichbinse , reed , bulrush , bur reed , sedges , Gifthahnenfuß , Green Figwort , brooklime ) in the ponds grow aquatic plants like Potamogeton Crispus , Common mare's tail , Ceratophyllum demersum and Chara . Broad-leaved orchid and devil's bite can be found in the wet meadows . 118 species of birds have been observed in the area. As a breeding bird species are for 1973-1980 following called: Little Grebe , Buzzard , Kestrel , Quail , Blässralle , moorhen , water rails , lapwing , snipe , meadow pipit , yellow wagtail , grasshopper warbler , marsh warbler , reed warbler , Whitethroat , Klappergrasmücke , stonechat (sporadically), Whinchat , Turtledove , gray bunting and reed bunting .
