The Herrnberg von Groß-Umstadt is a nature reserve in the district of Groß-Umstadt in southern Hesse . It was designated by ordinance of May 28, 1996 and covers an area of ​​13.9 hectares.

location

The reserve is located in the Reinheimer Hügelland nature reserve on the south-eastern edge of the city of Groß-Umstadt. It extends over the western slope and the top of the Hainrichberg. The area is surrounded by the vineyard site (single site Am Herrnberg ) of the Odenwald wine island .

description

The reason for protection is the preservation of orchards , bushes, fallow land and a small forest with sweet chestnuts and junipers . This small-scale, extensively used landscape is important for the country's culture and should be preserved for reasons of cultural history. On the other hand, these biotopes are to be secured as a habitat for numerous, partly endangered animal and plant species. The former Hainrichsberg tree group natural monument (designated on May 27, 1959) was incorporated into the nature reserve and deleted on November 27, 1996.

The richly structured slope and the crest are structured with rough meadows , wood complexes exposed to heat, dry stone walls and stands of fruit trees. The otherwise rare common redstart breeds here on the edge of the vineyards . The red-backed shrimp , little owl , wryneck and turtledove live in the orchards .

An educational wine trail laid out in and around the vineyard also touches the nature reserve, which is described on a board. The biotope tour No. 10 of the Darmstadt-Dieburg district also leads past the protected area.
