The Fohlenweide of Dieburg is a nature reserve in the district Dieburg in Darmstadt-Dieburg , South Hessen . The wetland was placed under nature protection by ordinance of October 23, 1989.
location
The “Foal Pasture of Dieburg” is located in the Messeler Hügelland natural area in the forest. The nature reserve is located about 2.2 kilometers north-northwest of Dieburg and 2.1 kilometers west-southwest of Münster (Hesse) . It has a size of 23.52 hectares.
Protection purpose
The protection is intended to preserve areas of extensively used grassland on very wet locations ( wet meadows ), fallow areas , flowing water, wooded areas and forest edges. Existing forest stands should be developed close to nature. These biotopes are habitats for endangered and rare animal and plant species.
Flora and fauna
Wild orchids can be found in the wet meadows of the foal pasture . Amphibians and reptiles such as sand lizards and grass snakes live here. After mowing, white storks and gray herons use the area to forage. The area is rich in butterflies. In order to maintain the open character, a herd of Guernsey cattle graze the areas in spring .
