The large and small break near Roßdorf is a nature reserve on the boundaries of the urban district Darmstadt , as well as Roßdorf and Ober-Ramstadt in the district of Darmstadt-Dieburg , southern Hesse. The reserve was designated on November 25, 1993.

location

The nature reserve "Großer und Kleiner Bruch bei Roßdorf" is located in the southern Messel hill country about 1.3 kilometers west of the outskirts of Roßdorf. It stretches along the “Bach vom Diebsbrunnen”, one of the source streams of the Ruthsenbach , to the north to the former Darmstadt Ost – Groß-Zimmer railway line . Its area is 43.38 hectares.

The protected area includes forest meadows and swamp areas with varying degrees of moisture to wet, naturally developed bodies of water and the surrounding mixed forest. These areas should be preserved because of their importance for the natural balance, for biotope and species protection and for the landscape. Numerous rare and endangered animal and plant species can be found on the area, which must be sustainably promoted.

The “Ludwigsteich” fish pond in the north lies outside the actual protected area. In the east and south, the Natura2000 area “Wald und Magerrasen bei Roßdorf” (FFH area 6118-305) surrounds the nature reserve with its forests.
