The Scheelhecke von Groß-Zimmer is a nature reserve in the district of Groß-Zimmer in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district , southern Hesse .

location

The Scheelhecke wet biotope is located in the Reinheimer Hügelland natural area southeast of Groß-Zimmer. The nature reserve was designated by ordinance of August 11, 1983 and originally had an area of ​​4,034 hectares (StAnz. 35/1983, p. 1749). It was expanded by an ordinance of September 20, 1993 (StAnz. 43/1993, p. 2636). The protected area includes the riverside meadows between Landwehrgraben and Gersprenz in the east and the Hirschbach in the west. The Reinheimer Teich nature reserve is located south of the Scheelhecke . The two nature reserves have been embedded in the larger Natura2000 areas "Untere Gersprenz" (FFH area 6019-303) and "Untere Gersprenzaue" (EU bird sanctuary 6119-401) since 2008 .

Description, flora and fauna

Meadowsweet meadows , cabbage thistle meadows and Schlankseggenried grow on the extensively used grassland . In the north there is a softwood meadow with willow-alder-break forest .

Numerous birds, including the common snipe, breed in the wetland . Kingfisher , dipper and whinchat have been identified as guest birds . The common frog is numerous. Since around 2009 the European beaver has also made its home here again.

To promote the wetland, maintenance measures are carried out according to the management plan for the Natura 2000 area "Untere Gersprenz-FFH / Untere Gersprenzaue-VSG-TR Süd". For this purpose, a larger shallow water area was created from 2015 and water was directed into the adjacent meadows. In some cases, grazing is carried out by robust grazing animals.
