The Brackenbruch near Hergershausen is a nature reserve in the districts of Sickenhofen and Hergershausen (city of Babenhausen ), in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district in southern Hesse . The protected area was designated by ordinance of October 25, 1999.
location
The "Brackenbruch bei Hergershausen" nature reserve is located in the Untermainebene natural area - Gersprenz lowlands . It is located about 1.5 kilometers north-northwest of Hergershausen and about 2 kilometers northwest of Sickenhofen and extends along the course of the Lache stream . The reserve has an area of 52.32 hectares.
Protection purpose
By placing it under protection, a characteristic floodplain area characterized by regular flooding with different types of water, extensively used wet grassland , wet fallow land and adjacent forest areas that are partially left to succession is to be preserved. These biotopes are habitat for numerous animal and plant species that are threatened in their existence. Maintenance goals are extensive use of grassland and near-natural forest management with development into a common oak-hornbeam forest typical of the location . Parts of the forest should not be used as a habitat for organisms in the decay phase.
meaning
The protected area includes several forest meadows with shallow water and near-natural forest areas. Since 2008, as amended in 2016, the nature reserve has been embedded in the larger Natura2000 areas “Untere Gersprenz” (FFH area 6019-303) and “Untere Gersprenzaue” (EU bird protection area 6119-401), Hergershausen sub-area.
