The Kalksandkiefernwald in Bickenbach, Pfungstadt and Seeheim-Jugenheim is a nature reserve in the districts Bickenbach , Pfungstadt and Seeheim-Jugenheim in Darmstadt-Dieburg in Southern Hesse . It was expelled by ordinance of January 23, 1996.

location

The nature reserve is located in the Hessian Rhine Plain in the forest area between Darmstadt-Eberstadt , Pfungstadt and Seeheim-Jugenheim. The total area of ​​the protected area is 87.42 hectares. It consists of two sub-areas. The larger area extends north of Seeheim in the districts of Seeheim-Jugenheim and Pfungstadt. It borders on federal highway 3 to the west . The smaller area is northeast of Bickenbach and northwest of Jugenheim on the eastern edge of the Bickenbach district. It is bounded in the north by a lane of a natural gas pipeline.

Protection purpose

With the protection, the sand-lime pine forest is to be secured as a habitat for adapted rare animal and plant communities. A forest with a dominant proportion of pine with its ground vegetation and accompanying fauna is to be preserved through maintenance measures. The forest management should take the form of small farming.

The nature reserve "Lime sand pine forest near Bickenbach, Pfungstadt and Seeheim-Jugenheim" is a light pine forest on calcareous sandy soil. Remnants of hat trees and junipers indicate that pasture was previously used in the forest. For several years, parts of the area have been grazed by goats, sheep and donkeys in order to prevent encroachment with blackthorn and blackberries and to keep the ground open.

Flora and fauna

The undergrowth includes the rare plants hairy awl grass , perennial flax , dwarf snail , steppe milkweed , sun rose , wintergreen , sand violet , several types of orchids and sand silver wedge , as well as the gray scabiosa . Extensive sandy grass vegetation has also developed on the route of the gas pipeline north of the smaller sub-area through targeted care.

Tree pipit , wood warbler and pied flycatcher are named as breeding birds .
