The Hessian Rhine Plain is a natural spatial unit with the code number 225 according to the handbook of the natural spatial structure of Germany . It lies in the north of the Upper Rhine Plain and forms together with the Hessian part of the Northern Upper Rhine Lowland (222) the so-called "Hessian Ried" .

The natural area is bounded by the Rhine-Main lowlands in the north and the Neckar alluvial cone in the south. The Bergstrasse rises in the east of the Hessian Rhine Plain and the Northern Upper Rhine Lowland joins it in the west . The cities of Groß-Gerau and Darmstadt form the northern corner points of the Hessian Rhine plain. In the south, the natural area includes some districts of Mannheim and a part of Heddesheim and Weinheim .

The Hessian Rhine Plain is characterized by large, sandy high-tide sediments and gravel surfaces of the lower terrace on the right bank of the Rhine that are covered with drifting sand . On top of these there are layers of sand of different thicknesses and podsolige parabrouner earths , which are used in the region for tobacco and asparagus cultivation , among other things .

Large forests with pine , hornbeam and English oak grow on the plains .
