The Neckar alluvial cone describes a natural sub-unit (224.2 according to the handbook of the natural classification of Germany ) of the Neckar-Rhine plain , the main natural area 224 in the Upper Rhine Plain . It extends on the lower terrace from the exit of the Neckar from the Odenwald through the Bergstrasse (226) to the Schwetzinger Sand (224.1) and to the entrance to the Rhine floodplains of the northern Rhine lowlands (222) with the alluvial fan of the Neckar flowing flat into the plain .

The Neckar alluvial cone encompasses the eastern urban area of Mannheim , the area as far as Leutershausen , along the Bergstrasse via Heidelberg to Leimen . The border then follows the lowland of the Leimbach to Schwetzingen and then strokes to Mannheim-Friedrichsfeld (see map in the landscape plan for the area of ​​the Heidelberg-Mannheim neighborhood association ). Other places that are wholly or partially in this area are Sandhausen , Oftersheim , Plankstadt , Eppelheim , Edingen , Ladenburg and Heddesheim .
