Protection purpose
The protection of the rare sandy and semi- arid lawns should be preserved. The calcareous drifting sands and heat-loving hedge fringes are habitats for numerous endangered plant and animal species. As maintenance goals, the sandy areas are to be kept open and agricultural use increased. The area is to be secured as a stepping stone in the biotope network of lime airframe sites on the Hessian Bergstrasse and the northern Upper Rhine Plain .
description
The protected area "Im Dulbaum bei Alsbach" belongs to the approximately 10 kilometer wide belt of drift sand dunes in the Rhine plain between Darmstadt and Rastatt . It is a former sand pit that has been recultivated in places with trees. Partial areas were used for arable farming until 1992, and since about 2000 the areas have been grazed extensively with sheep.
Flora and fauna
The habitat types “dry, calcareous sandy grasslands” and, in small areas, “sub-Pannonian steppe grasslands” occur in the area. Notable plant species are Sand-Radmelde , Sand-Sommerwurz , Sand-Thyme , Blue-green Schillergrass , Arable Black Cumin , Hair Awlgrass , Buck's Belt Tongue and Sand-Silberscharte . The heat-loving species in the area include sand lizards , blue-winged wasteland insects , western biters and common heather .

Impairments
Nutrients and pesticides are brought in from the adjacent fields . Pollution and nutrient input also occur through the motorway service area, which is why a fence was drawn in the southern area in 2014. As a non-resident neophyte , the tree of the gods spreads in the middle, wooded part of the protected area under the high-voltage line.
