The quarry meadows of Dorndiel are a nature reserve in the Dorndiel district of Groß-Umstadt in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district in southern Hesse . A small western part of the site lies on Breuberg - Wald-Amorbacher district in the Odenwald district . The 8.65 hectare protected area with the identification number 1432001 has been under nature protection since December 8, 1977 , the currently valid ordinance dates from November 26, 1990.
location
The protected area "Bruchwiesen von Dorndiel" is located in the red sandstone - Odenwald about two kilometers southeast of Dorndiel and 0.5 kilometers northeast of the outskirts of Wald-Amorbach. It extends for about 650 meters in the meadow valley of the Amorbach . In the north and northwest it is bounded by the district road 102.
meaning
The Bruchwiesen are a wet biotope with open water areas, reed beds , wet meadows and groups of trees. The reason for protection is the preservation of meadows with different levels of moisture, reeds and spring horizons in a near-natural section of the Amorbach stream with its ditch systems. Due to the small-scale change in structures, these are the habitat of numerous animal and plant species, as well as breeding, feeding and resting biotopes for rare birds, amphibians and insects .

The Bruchwiesen are assumed to be the location of the moated castle Waldamorbach of the Schelle von Amorbach .
