Occurrence
Locations are given for the following countries: Belgium , Denmark , Germany , France , Croatia , Austria , Poland , Romania , Sweden , Switzerland , the Czech Republic , Slovakia , Hungary and Turkey .
In Austria Scabiosa canescens occurs scattered in the Pannonian area , otherwise very rarely. The occurrences extend to the federal states of Vienna , Lower Austria , Burgenland and Upper Austria . Scabiosa canescens is considered endangered, in the northern foothills of the Alps as endangered.
This endangered species in Germany occurs only in dry and warm areas such as Thuringia and southern Saxony-Anhalt. It is classified here as a national type of responsibility within the national strategy for biological diversity of the federal government.
The lime-loving scented scabies grows on dry grassland, in sparse pine forests and on stony slopes of the colline to submontane (perhaps also to the lower montane) altitude. In Central Europe it is a character species of the Geranio-Anemonetum sylvestris from the Geranion sanguinei association, but also occurs in plant communities of the order Festucetalia valesiacae or the Cytiso-Pinion or Erico-Pinion associations.
