Longitudinal section through a head, schematic representation.

The expression head (also capitulum or anthodium ) describes an inflorescence in botany . All flowers sit directly on the compressed and thickened stem axis , often there is a bracte at the base .

The different types of clover often develop heads, which can be derived from compressed grapes in comparison between the types .

The structure of the head is very similar to the basket .

A head with a thickened axis acts like a piston as soon as it is not typically shortened . The transition between these types of inflorescences is fluid and can be easily observed in man litter .
