history
It is assumed that Groß-Zimmer was the foundation of the Fulda Abbey. The place is mentioned for the first time in 1250 as Cymmere in a Katzenelnbogen document, when Fulda gave the fief of the late Georg von Zimmer to Count Diether and Eberhard von Katzenelnbogen. Except for one alley that was Hessian, Groß-Zimmer belonged to the Umstadt condominium , which from 1806 belonged to the Starkenburg province of the Grand Duchy of Hesse . In 1821 district districts were introduced in the Grand Duchy and Groß-Zimmer was assigned to the district of Dieburg .
The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Groß-Zimmer in 1829:
»Großzimmer (L. Bez. Dieburg) market town; is on the left side of the Gersprenz, 1 ⁄ 2 St. from Dieburg and 1 3 ⁄ 4 St. from Umstadt, and has 323 houses and 2,754 inhabitants, of which 1736 Luth., 883 Cath., 2 Reform. and 133 are Jews. The population is divided into 84 peasants, 195 who do bourgeois trades and 9 manufacturers. There is a communal church, which was partly rebuilt in 1777, 5 grinding mills, 1 brickworks, 1 tobacco factory, 9 stoners , several tanners and many linen weavers. Five markets are held annually. There are significant Häfnerthon pits in the area. - A noble family of rooms that appears in 1250; possessed various rights and inclines here, which fell to the Fuldisches fief and the von Wambold family. From Fulda they were made into katzenellenbogenschen afterlehen. In 1380 Rucker Wambold and in 1384 Heinrich Wambold, with the feudal approval of Count Wilhelm II von Katzenellenbogen, sold all their goods and justice to large rooms to Engelhard von Frankenstein, who was still owned by Count Johann III in 1403. accepted the mortgage over it. Löwenstein exercised the bailiff's rights in the rest of the town, and in 1373 Count Palatine Ruprecht the Elder bought the Wertheim share in large rooms. Fulda and Hanau had this place in undivided community. The former pledged its half to Hanau in 1374, and in 1390 it was sold to Prince Ruprecht the Elder of the Palatinate. Hanau alone remained in sole possession until 1427, and in the following year took its share from the Palatinate as a fief. In the Bavarian feud in 1504, Hesse had taken the whole thing away, and by means of a settlement in 1521, Hesse and the Palatinate became joint. Großzimmer had come to Habizheim Castle as a deposit and stayed with it. Like Habizheim itself, it belonged to the princes of Löwenstein-Wertheim with the lower jurisdiction. The high and centable jurisdiction was common between Hesse and Palatinate. The Hess. Half was divided between Hessen-Darmstadt and Hessen-Cassel, until 1627, half came entirely to Darmstadt. Hesse received the Palatinate share in 1802 and the Löwenstein Gerechtsamen in 1805 by exchange. Großzimmer was still a branch of Umstadt in the late Middle Ages. "
In 1832 the units were enlarged one more time and circles were created. This brought Groß-Zimmer into the Dieburg district . The provinces, the counties and the administrative districts of the Grand Duchy were abolished on July 31, 1848 and replaced by administrative districts, but this was reversed on May 12, 1852. This was one of Gross-Zimmern 1848-1852 the government district Dieburg before returning to the circle Dieburg was responsible for the overall administration. This was a district of the Grand Duchy of Hesse until November 1, 1938 and of the People's State of Hesse after the First World War . The district of Dieburg emerged from it in the course of administrative reforms in 1938 . In the course of the regional reform in Hesse in 1977 the district of Dieburg was merged with the district of Darmstadt and forms today's district of Darmstadt-Dieburg.
Territorial reform
As part of the regional reform in Hesse , on January 1, 1977, the previously independent municipality of Klein -zimmer (2004: 1600 inhabitants) was incorporated by law into Groß -zimmer, with the exception of the shares in the Zeilharder Wald district , which went to Messel . For the district of Klein -zimmer, a local district with a local advisory board and local councilor was formed according to the Hessian municipal code.
