The Ruthsenbach , also called Rutzenbach , is a brook in Darmstadt and is the section name for the upper reaches of the Mühlbach .

etymology

The Ruthsenbach used to have different names: In 1577 the brook was called Steinbrücker Bach (after the stone bridge on Dieburger Straße ). In other districts the brook appears as a swamp brook . In Arheilgen the brook was also called Seebach (because it flows through the lake meadows ). In 1740 it is mentioned for the first time as Rutzenbach .

The name Ruthsenbach probably comes from the family name Ruths or Rutz , which also occurs locally in profit names.

course

According to the river code number, the Ruthsenbach rises on the western edge of the village of Roßdorf . Its course begins on the embankment of the disused Darmstadt Ost – Groß-Zimmer railway line in the direction of west-northwest. After 600 meters of flow, it takes up the 2200 meter long stream from the Thief's Well from the south . Because of the longer stretch of the river, this can be used as a section name for the actual source stream of the Ruthsenbach . In the three-cornered corner between the two creek beds and the railway embankment, the small Roßdorf housing estate Am Ruthsenbach has arisen.

The longer source stream of the Ruthsenbach flows lengthways from south to north through the nature reserve Großer and Kleiner Bruch near Roßdorf , starting at the edge of a forest meadow southwest of the eponymous Diebsbrunnen . Finally, behind the Ludwigsteich at the Bessunger Forsthaus , this source stream crosses under the L 3104 and the railway embankment, to merge with the shorter source stream coming from the east shortly before the passage of the motorway-like main road 26 .

North of the B26, the Ruthsenbach takes the route through the protected wetlands of the Scheftheimer Wiesen . He touches the menhir of Darmstadt . To the northwest of the Scheftheimer Wiesen , the brook crosses the Brunnersweg Bridge . Then the Ruthsenbach flows through the Steinbrücker pond . To the east of the pheasantry , the brook crosses the canal and bridge on the carefree . Afterwards the brook flows into the Erich-Kästner-See and the Brentano -See . To the west of the railway line, the brook feeds the Arheilger Mühlchen . Then the Ruthsenbach flows through the flood protection structure retention basin Seewiese . On the eastern edge of Darmstadt-Arheilgen , the Ruthsenbach flows through the back mill . After crossing the center of Arheilgen, the Ruthsenbach merges with the Silz to form the Mühlbach .

In the 2000s the Ruthsenbach in the center of Arheilgen was renovated.
