Canal and bridge at the carefree

The bridge on the carefree is a road bridge over the Ruthsenbach in Darmstadt-Kranichstein .

Construction and history

Landgravine Sophie Eleonore had a canal built between the Barkhaus pond and the Steinbrücker pond after the Thirty Years War . On this - partly still recognizable - canal, the landlady gondolaed from pond to pond and also organized courtly water games . The Ruthsenbach was part of the canal. The bridge on the "Carefree" crosses the Ruthsenbach and is one of the oldest plastered sandstone bridges in Darmstadt. The sandstone bridge probably dates from the 17th century and was built at the same time as the canal.

Varia

The bridge is also known as the carefree bridge and the Sanssouci bridge ( French sans souci "without worry").
