The Silz is a brook in Darmstadt .

etymology

The name "Silz" was derived from Sülz (= muddy puddle).

The dragoon potion got its name after the former expansion of the Silz to a horse sponges. The name is reminiscent of the dragoons who had a camp near the lime kiln in the 18th century in a large sandy area where they watered their horses.

course

The Silz rises - as the only one of the Darmstadt brooks in the Darmstadt district itself - on a narrow, previously swampy strip of meadow behind Einsiedel Castle on the eastern edge of the Darmstadt Oberwald . From there, the Silz, which draws only a small amount of water from its own spring, receives an inflow from the Frieselbrunnen, which is equally productive in every season. This tributary was created at the beginning of the 19th century in order to drain the forest meadow into which the well flowed and to secure today's Zimmerer Weg. At that time, Zimmerer Weg led to a quarry and should remain passable. The Silz crosses under the Kranichsteiner Straße, flows through the Silzwiesen nature reserve in a westerly direction and flows through the artificial Dianateich . The Landgrafenteich drains into the Silz. To the west of the Diana pond, the Silz passes the so-called dragoon potion. The stream then flows past the so-called Totenbergen and the Leichgarten. Then he crosses under the Dreischläger Weg. On the northern edge of Darmstadt-Arheilgen , the Silz joins the Ruthsenbach to form the Mühlbach.

This flows in the west of Graefenhausen. It bears its name because it supplied several mills with water. The Mühlbach is characterized by a relatively untouched stream bed and a relatively good water quality.
