The Breuberg-Bund , with its full name Breuberg-Bund - Historical Association for the Study of the Odenwald and its peripheral landscapes e. V. , is a scientific and journalistic association that is dedicated to historical and cultural research into the Odenwald and its peripheral areas. The Breuberg Bund was founded on October 18, 1947 at Breuberg Castle .

Structure and activities

The Breuberg Association currently has 1,100 members, mainly from the Hessian, Baden and Bavarian parts of the Odenwald, but also from other federal states and abroad. The seat of the secretariat is in Groß-Bieberau , the current first chairman is Winfried Wackerfuß .

The Breuberg-Bund is mainly concerned with the research of history (archeology, territorial history, genealogy and heraldry), art history and geography, as well as regional and folklore of the Odenwald. A special focus is on activities to preserve Breuberg Castle and the maintenance of the Breuberg Museum, which is located in the castle and run by the association. The association organizes conferences and is active in the field of adult education.

Three currently active working groups are dedicated to individual key topics:

  • The "Working Group of Landmarks" conducts monument research and inventory.
  • The "Atlas for the Odenwald Working Group" is working on the creation of a regional special atlas, some of which have already been published in advance in the Breuberg-Bund's magazine.
  • The “ Arnheider Chapel Working Group ”, in cooperation with the University of Heidelberg and the responsible monument protection authorities, is dedicated to researching and securing the Arnheider Chapel (in other spelling also “Arnheiter Chapel”). The chapel is a sacred building from the 8th century and possibly older than the Einhard basilica .

Furthermore, the Breuberg-Bund maintains a special library located in Breuberg -Neustadt and is itself a journalist.
