Back in the Nineties -

Back in the Nineties is the third and final studio album by the German indie pop band tonair , released in 2008 .

Emergence

Tonair wrote three new songs for the album. The rest of the album consists of older and previously recorded song material that was re-recorded under producer Sami Khatib . The album title and the title track of the same name are based on the shared experiences of the band members, who spent their childhood and youth especially in the 1990s and who also got to know each other during this time.

In the run-up to the album, the two tracks Ride As You Are and Pride were released as singles . For the song I Love You So Much More , the band shot their first music video in the indoor pool in Aichach . The video tells the story of a bathing guest who sees his dream woman every time in the swimming pool, but cannot reach her. Both in the song and in the video it remains to be seen whether he will ever achieve this.

Music genre

Contrary to what the title suggests, the musical style of Back in the Nineties is more likely to be assigned to beat music in the style of the 1960s, especially the Mersey Sound from Liverpool in the style of the early Beatles . This puts them in line with comparable Britpop bands from the late 1990s and early 2000s, such as Mando Diao , Oasis , Nada Surf or Blur . The lyrics are about everyday occurrences.

reception

The album was well received by the critics. So wrote the star :

“The four musicians continue to do the timeless, beautiful, personable guitar pop that they have come to love over the past few years. Singalongs and clap-along parts included, they circumnavigate the boundary to the unified sound again and again with ease through charming organ interjections and unexpected breaks, like in the great opener "I LOVE YOU SO MUCH MORE".
