The Mitterkirchen swimming lake is located in the village of Weisching in the cadastral municipality of Langacker in the market town of Mitterkirchen in Machland in the Perg district in Upper Austria .

The swimming lake , infrastructure and the associated leisure area were laid out at the beginning of the 1970s on the site of a former gravel pit leased by the municipality from the time the Wallsee-Mitterkirchen power plant was built, as well as surrounding fields, has a water surface of around 30,000 square meters and was originally around three meters deep. In 1995 the lake was adapted to new hygiene standards and partially deepened to about six meters. It is one of the warmest bathing lakes in Upper Austria and in 2010 and 2011 had good water quality with low bacteriological pollution.

The physical, geographical and hydrological characteristics of the swimming lake are described as follows:

As a groundwater lake without permanent surface inflows and outflows, the bathing lake is not part of a surface water body and is located in the Bavarian-Austrian Alpine Foreland bioregion and thus part of the central low mountain range ecoregion .

  • Bathing beach with grassy semi-natural land zone with sand and gravel along the edge of the water around the entire lake.

  • The air temperature in the catchment area is 8 to 10 degrees Celsius on an annual average.
  • During the bathing season (June to August) from 2000 to 2009, the water temperature was around an average of 22.7 degrees Celsius with a maximum of 29.9 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 17.9 degrees Celsius.

The approximately five hectare leisure area includes a. a beach volleyball court (since 1999), a water trampoline , a bathing island and a children's playground. The lake is used for ice stock sports and ice skating in winter . The fishing license for the bathing lake is administered by the Mitterkirchen fishing club, which issues the fishing licenses.

The leisure area is always the location of tent festivals and cultural events such as B. the Grenzfluss World Jazz Festival with Peter Madsen .
