Aerial photo of the former wave swimming pool from a south-westerly direction. While the swimming pool was filled with sand and used as a climbing garden, the bathing museum has been housed in the former building since 2007. To the north of the museum is the Argonner grove and the town center with the conversation house.

The bade ~ museum norderney / Galerie Hans Trimborn is located in the building of the former open-air swimming pool near the west beach of the East Frisian island of Norderney . The focus of the collection is on the cultural "legacy of the more than 200-year history of the North Sea spa Norderney, the travel and bathing culture of bygone eras as well as 'art by the sea'". The museum is supported by the Friends of the Museum Nordseeheilbad Norderney, founded in February 2005 . The house, which had 6,756 visitors in 2013, is a member of the Museum Association of East Friesland , the Museum Association of Lower Saxony / Bremen , the AG Museums and Collections in East Friesland and the AG of the spa and bathing museums in Germany.

history

Plans to set up a museum on Norderney had existed since the 1980s. The idea was initiated by the History and Culture Working Group in the Norderney Heimatverein. For a long time the project failed due to a lack of space or insufficient financial resources. In February 2005, the Friends of the Museum Nordseeheilbad was founded , to which the Staatsbad Norderney GmbH shortly afterwards gave the outdoor pool building on the west beach, which had been closed since 2002. In the building, which was completed in 1974 after almost two years of construction, the association was able to open the museum in September 2007 after renovations. In 2013, the association had 178 members.
