Agricultural Workers Museum Suurhusen
The Suurhusen Agricultural Workers Museum is housed in a building constructed around 1679 in the town of the same name in the East Frisian community of Hinte . This initially served as a poor house and later as a farm workers house. In its permanent exhibition, the house shows the modest and cramped living and living situation of a traditional East Frisian farm worker family from 1900 to around 1950.
The organization is responsible for the Agricultural Workers Museum Suurhusen. Gitta Nörtker is in charge. The association bought the building, which was in dire need of renovation, with the associated property in 1990 for a symbolic euro from the municipality and thus saved it from the planned demolition. Over several years of work, the farm workers' house was restored and returned to its state of 1900. It was opened as a farm workers' museum on May 11, 1997. The house is a member of the Museumsverbund Ostfriesland as well as the working group Museums and Collections in Ostfriesland .
The museum's holdings include around 800 exhibits, including a model of the village showing Suurhusen around 1750. The museum's archive is also of great importance and consists of an extensive collection of documents on the history of the village, reports from contemporary witnesses and historical photos.
