Museum Association of East Frisia

The Museumsverbund Ostfriesland is an amalgamation of 16 museums, together with their local communities, in the region of the same name . The chairman of the association is Matthias Stenger. Nina Hennig is the managing director.

history

The museum association was founded in 1989 as an unregistered association . In 1999 he was integrated into the Ostfrieslandstiftung der Ostfriesische Landschaft . In 2001, the association initiated the Museum Association Ostfriesland Inventory Network (MOIN) project and (2004–2007) the follow-up project "COLLECTING!" The aim was the uniform recording and documentation of collections. In the spring of 2003, the first version of the East Frisian object database was then released to the participating museums. For this, the association was awarded the Museum Prize of the Lower Saxony Sparkasse Foundation in 2003 for exemplary documentation and communication work.

tasks and goals

The museum association wants to promote cooperation between all museums and is committed to improving quality. Another goal is the complete inventory of the houses, the creation of collection concepts and their certification. The museum association organized joint exhibitions of all participating houses several times, such as When Friesians Were Prussia in 1997 or the show Schein und Sein, which was linked to the theme year 2010 Adventure Reality . Together with the “Federatie van Musea en Oudheidskamers in Drenthe, Groningen en Friesland”, the district of Emsland and the Oldenburg landscape, the Museum Association of East Friesland publishes a cross-border museum magazine once a year.

16 museums have come together in the network. Eight of them are run full-time and eight run on a voluntary basis. The contribution of the houses is based on the income. Members are:
