history

The municipality of Westoverledingen decided in 1975 to set up a museum to present the school history of the municipality. The museum was then opened in the old Folmhus school building. Initially, it was supported by the Westoverledingen local and tourist office. In 1981 the repertoire was expanded from the representation of the Westoverledinger school history to the whole of East Frisia. The official opening of the museum did not take place until 1987. In that year 5000 people visited the museum. In 2008 the school museum was registered as a museum in the Museum Association for Lower Saxony and Bremen.
