history
The museum goes back to an initiative of the Esenser Heimatverein. In 1980 he set up a “home parlor” in a room in the former school building. Most of the exhibits shown there were loans from private owners and donations from citizens of Esen. In 1986 the town of Esens bought the old Peldemühle , renovated it from the ground up and left the tower as a museum to the Heimatverein. He then developed a concept for a local history museum in Esen , which the local history association opened in December 1989, including the exhibits from the Heimatstube . In 1991 the museum was accepted into the Museum Association of East Friesland . From 1993 the mill's outbuildings were included in the museum concept. In 1995 the museum was given its new name Leben am Meer - a mill full of stories .
