Robert von Zeppelin and Aviation Museum
The Robert von Zeppelin and Aviation Museum is a museum in the East Frisian town of Wittmund . It was founded in June 2015 by the operating association “Robert von Zeppelin- und Fliegermuseum Wittmund e. V. ”opens and shows the regional history of the historic Wittmundhafen airfield , which was originally used by the Imperial Navy from 1916 . Initially, three zeppelins of the Kriegsmarine were stationed at Wittmundhafen and flew on reconnaissance flights to England and France.
Namesake
The museum is named after Robert von Zeppelin, a descendant of the airship designer Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin living in the United States .
exhibition
The exhibition shows models of the Wittmundhafen airfield , zeppelins and airplanes on around 300 square meters of exhibition space . Information boards provide information about the history of regional aviation in and around Wittmund. The namesake Robert von Zeppelin made several aviation exhibits available from his private collection, including a uniform of a marine from the First World War .
In addition to the early phase of flying on Wittmundhafen , attention is also drawn to the later history of flying on the airfield.

The museum's collection shows functional historical printing machines , early bicycles with auxiliary motors and a documentation of Frisian sports from other subject areas .
